Hello; well I think, like with most historical stories, there is no absolute single truth that we can be certain of. There may have been many invasions by many peoples who eventually became 'absorbed' by the general population over time. There is a similar argument with regard to the music and culture of Spain; the nomads ('Gypsies') are originally said to come from Rajasthan which is therefore the origin of the rhythmic cycles and the Indian style of dance used in Flamenco. However, others claim a north-african, arabian and jewish origin. The Gypsies themselves did come from Rajasthan as their bloodgroups prove (although they believe they came from Egypt -hence the name 'Gypsy'); but the Morrocans, Berbers and Almorovids occupied Spain for over 750 years so there is bound to be a north African influence and Jews and Arabians flooded Spain over many centuries. Personally, I believe it is what we have now that is most important; the roots of music lie in the universe and its natural phenomena, not with any 'race' or land.
I live in England; I scan a world radio and hear a lot of different music. One day an incredible voice broke through the interference accompanied by a harmonium. I had never heard Indian music before, but it made complete sense to me musically. This is what I call 'Spectral-Music'; the essense of music, I believe, has natural roots rather than simply 'cultural' or 'intellectual' ones.
Kind Regards
