Pt Laxman Krishnarao Pandit is one of the most respected Gwalior Gharana vocalists and the son of legendary vocalist Krishnarao Shankar Pandit.
Laxman Krishnarao was born into a musical family in 1934. His father Krishnarao Shankar Pandit was one of the most important Gwalior Gharana vocalists. Laxman Krishnarao received his music training from his father.
Laxman Krishnarao is an expert in khayal, tappa, tarana, ashtapadi and thumri. He excells in the difficult genre of tappa. A traditionalist, he follows the Gwalior gharana format practiced by his renowned father faithfully. He has been honoured with several awards including the Sangeet Natak Academi Award and the Ustad Hafiz Ali Award. His family tradition is being continued by his daughter Meeta Pandit, after the sudden demise of his promising son, Tushar Pandit.
